A Wonderful & Educational Experienc
By: Frank Baute The Model of United Nations (MUNEA) Is a wonderful
experience where students represent delegates from
MODEL different countries and sit on a round table to discuss about
UNITED big political issues or any problem in general, to generate
ideas to solve it. This is one of the most educational
NATIONS experiences any educational service can provide to their
(MUN) students, since it makes the students research about the
topic, discuss about it, and learn vocabulary.
The MUN Got a simple, but at the same time complex
structure. It consists of 6 committees. The Security Council,
being the most complex, UNESCO, The FAO, UNICEF,
SOCHUM, And UNEP. Each committee had unique
problematics, which each delegate of each committee had to
sustain proper arguments and proper solutions to resolve
the given problems once for all. Each committee has its own
rules & difficulty depending on the delegate’s level.
Even though each committee has its own rules, there are
some basic rules every committee must follow. There’s the
Roll Call, which is when the delete will be called by the chair,
And the delegate must answer with “present” or “present
and voting”. There’s the agenda, which is basically the start
of the mini conference. The agenda can be closed, if the
session is over, or can be reopened.
The Opening Speech is something EVERY delegate must present. Each delegate will have
one minute to express their presentation, their position on the country, which will make
the chair notice them for participation. To have a good opening speech the delegate
must speak fluently while containing consistency and order, something the chair will
note for the great award a delegate can receive, “Best Opening Speech (for each
committee.)”.
After the opening speeches, the chair will entertain a motion to open the session by
saying “motion to open session” by saying motion to open the session with the given
topic. There is, of course, a recess, which each delegate can obtain at the given time the
academic institution or organizers of the event say so. There are two types of debates,
The formal debate & the informal debate. The formal debate indicates a protocol to start
a formal debate with a Speakers’ list. A Speakers’ list is a list which each speaker (in this
case each delegate) will give their respective position, argument & resolution on how to
resolve the topic. There’s a respective format to the Formal Debate that each delegate
must follow. Delegates will speak when they are recognized, and the Speakers’ list will
on continue until suspended. The informal debate, also known as a moderated caucus,
needs simple majority for it to start. It can start through a motion, which includes to
suspend the speakers list to start a moderated caucus.
